What happened to having ads ABOUT THE CAR???? Is this kind of crap really what marketing agencies think actually sell shit?

WHY do they even BOTHER marketing a Tacoma, Tundra or 4Runner in the first place?
Those things practically sell themselves right off the showroom floor.

my guess of the process is that it went something like this:
Toyota exec - We should some throwback stuff, maybe with chuck norris
Marketing agency - whatever, you pay the bills. its an amazing idea, but lets try it this way so it looks good
Toyota exec - cool I just need to show it to 30 groups and get their buyoff
* 30 meetings and hundreds of changes later*
Marketing agency - *dies inside* here’s the end result. Enjoy.
Toyota Exec - My ideas are so good!

my guess is they are finally starting to feel the sting of the colorado and upcoming ranger. Or at least they want to pull the light away from Ford as they get ramped up on the Ranger.
Im with his stigness though, just sell the truck.

I figured it would be the other way around. I imagine that it was the marketing agency that Cadillac uses that convinced them to move to New York because HIP!

Let’s review:
- guys who like football buy them
- it can do donuts
- it can drive fast on a very flat, very smooth
gravel
road
- it call pull a 120 lb man
- it looks good in low-light
- it can carry many full-size mattresses
- it would make a very
fine tree house
- it looks good on a stage
- it floats (maybe?)
- it has doors that open
- old ladies like it

It’s like beer. No matter how terrible the advertising, people are still going to buy them.

Maybe they had a deal with Chuck Norris and he didn’t pair well with a Corolla?

Eh, better than those nissan commercials that showed the frontier doing heroic things without the tongue in cheek chuck norris reference.

is it though? Having chuck in there just makes it more cringy that they wrangled him in for this role.

Yeah, that chuck norris commercial is better than this:
But both are still better than the chevy “Aluminum sucks” type of commercials.

This, in my experience, is remarkably accurate. Except it’s 35 meetings and they don’t matter because in the end they do what the executive wants. Thank you Saachi & Saachi.

Because there’s this far more sophisticated mid size trucklet called the Ranger that’s about to be launched. And it foreshadows a wagon version that you may either call Everest or Bronco (no-one is very sure).
I may not like the Ranger much...mostly because you can’t see out of it...but it is a much better handling rig than a Hilux and given the Tacoma has a chassis and suspension development thats not exactly up to date even by current Hilux standards...Toyota US should be worried.
